Burial Speaker Housing

Outdoor or burial speakers are electronic components that have to perform in harsh weather conditions in the great outdoors and often around swimming pools. As a result, their housings must be particularly rugged, a point that was not lost on one of our audio customers when they sent us an RFQ for a burial speaker housing. Working closely with the client’s project engineer, we joined forces to determine the best way to produce this complicated part. The finished assembly is 25" x 13" and consists of four spinnings using 0.125" aluminum. We engaged out metal spinning lathe and vertical mill to produce all the components necessary to tight tolerances of ±0.030". One side of the housing has a welded ring with 14, 10-32 rivnuts installed. The other housing has a tube with 0.25" wall thickness TIG welded to the body with a mounting bridge attached to the tube to fasten the top cap. The final finish was powder coating, which we subcontracted to a trusted supplier. All housings were then inspected for fit, form, and function. All of the work was completed in-house while closely following customer specifications. The lead time on this part is six to seven weeks due to the many fabricating processes involved. H & H Manufacturing & Metal Spinning Inc. now produces ten sets of completely assembled burial speaker housings per order and has fulfilled over 150 sets since the project’s inception.
