Custom Lighting Shade

Because of our expertise in custom metal spinning, we often receive requests from OEMs in the lighting industry for fixtures and components. This was the case when a client sent H & H Manufacturing & Metal Spinning Inc. a PDF of an aluminum lighting shade 25″ in diameter x 10.5″ tall that they needed to have produced for an outdoor lighting fixture. We used our metal spinning lathe to generate a prototype from a 0.125″-thick aluminum blank, which was then submitted for customer approval. Once our customer signed off on the prototype, we moved into production on the first order of 50 lighting shades, all to a tolerance of only ±0.030″. We use our spin lathe to manually produce each shade by hand. Metal spinning shapes parts when a metal blank is pressed against a spinning steel or wooden mandrel locked securely in a lathe chuck until the blank assumes the finished shape of the mandrel. The prototype was finished in 15 working days; the first order of 50 shades was finished in only 10 to 15 days. We degreased the lighting shade, whose final finish was left as raw aluminum. These shades have been so successful that they are now a product in our lighting customer’s portfolio, and we are still producing them today.
